What is Hearts?

Hearts is the classic trick-taking game for four, and the goal takes some getting used to: you want as few points as you can manage. Every heart you win costs a point, the Queen of Spades costs thirteen, and most hands are spent quietly dodging both. Unless, of course, you smell a chance to shoot the moon. Play free against smart bots or with friends in a private room. No sign-up, nothing to download.

How to play in a minute

1. Everyone gets 13 cards, and before most hands you pass three to a neighbour.
2. Whoever holds the 2 of Clubs leads the first trick. Follow suit if you can.
3. The highest card of the led suit takes the trick, along with any hearts or the Queen of Spades hiding in it.
4. Hearts can't be led until one has been "broken" — discarded on another trick.
5. When someone reaches 100 points the game ends, and the lowest score wins.
