What is Hearts?
Hearts is the classic trick-taking game for four, and the goal takes some getting used to: you want as few points as you can manage. Every heart you win costs a point, the Queen of Spades costs thirteen, and most hands are spent quietly dodging both. Unless, of course, you smell a chance to shoot the moon. Play free against smart bots or with friends in a private room. No sign-up, nothing to download.
How to play in a minute
- Everyone gets 13 cards, and before most hands you pass three to a neighbour.
- Whoever holds the 2 of Clubs leads the first trick. Follow suit if you can.
- The highest card of the led suit takes the trick, along with any hearts or the Queen of Spades hiding in it.
- Hearts can't be led until one has been "broken" — discarded on another trick.
- When someone reaches 100 points the game ends, and the lowest score wins.
